The province has still not published its 2026 nomination allocation, and industry media have suggested that the recent pattern of small, frequent draws may reflect a limited pool of remaining spaces, though the province has offered no explanation. For those invited, a federal temporary measure in effect since June 9 allows provincial nominees applying for permanent residence (PR) from inside Canada to apply for a Bridging Open Work Permit (BOWP) before receiving an Acknowledgement of Receipt (AOR), helping them avoid a gap in status during a base provincial nominee processing cycle that currently runs about 13 months.

The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) held three draws between September 1 and September 9, 2026, all aimed at candidates holding an Alberta job offer, issuing a combined 722 invitations to apply for a provincial nomination: on September 1, the Alberta Opportunity Stream invited 575 candidates with a minimum score of 56; on September 3, the Alberta Express Entry Stream – Accelerated Tech Pathway invited 96 tech workers with a minimum score of 60; and on September 9, the Dedicated Health Care Pathway – Express Entry invited 51 health care workers, also at a minimum score of 60. As of September 9, Alberta had issued 4,864 nominations this year, roughly 74 percent of its full-year allocation of 6,603, leaving 1,739 spots; the Worker Expression of Interest pool still held 35,957 active profiles, of which the Alberta Opportunity Stream alone accounted for 22,381 against just 837 remaining nominations in that stream, so competition remains intense. Health care and technology are both among Alberta's designated priority sectors for 2026, alongside construction, aviation, agriculture and manufacturing.

Newfoundland and Labrador invited 97 candidates to apply for a provincial nomination through the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP) on September 4, 2026, in the province's 13th draw of the year and only the second round since it moved to an Expression of Interest (EOI) model in February 2025 in which no Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) candidate received an invitation. The province has now issued 2,556 invitations in 2026 — 2,162 through the NLPNP and 394 through the AIP — well behind the 3,376 invitations it issued across 13 rounds in all of 2025, with the AIP's share falling from roughly 27% to about 15%. Candidates who receive an invitation should also note a change at the federal level: since June 9, 2026, provincial nominees who submit a permanent residence (PR) application from inside Canada have been able to apply for a Bridging Open Work Permit (BOWP) before receiving an Acknowledgement of Receipt (AOR), allowing them to maintain status while their application is processed; the temporary measure is currently in place until December 31, 2026. Federal processing currently takes about 13 months for base PNP permanent residence applications and about 7 months for Express Entry-aligned (enhanced) nominations.

The Government of Alberta announced on August 10, 2026, that the federal government had granted the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) 200 additional regular provincial nomination spaces, increasing its annual allocation from 6,403 to 6,603. Following the adjustment, allocations across six streams and pathways rose by a combined 256 spaces, while allocations for the law enforcement and entrepreneur categories fell by a combined 56, resulting in a net increase of 200. As of July 30, the AAIP had issued 3,892 regular nominations, leaving 2,711 spaces available. At the same time, the Worker Expression of Interest (WEOI) pool contained 36,948 profiles, indicating that demand remains well above available capacity.

British Columbia held a new round of entrepreneur immigration invitations on July 28, 2026, issuing 10 invitations to apply through the Base Stream of the BC Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) Entrepreneur Immigration category, with a minimum score of 117; those invited may apply for a provincial nomination and, in turn, for Canadian permanent residence at the federal level. It was the province's eighth Base Stream round of 2026 and one of only three rounds this year to invite Base candidates exclusively, bringing the year's entrepreneur invitations to at least 88 and the province's combined total with Skills Immigration to at least 3,824. With the federal Start-up Visa (SUV) having stopped accepting new applications at the end of 2025 and details of the replacement pilot still unpublished, provincial business immigration routes such as the BC PNP are becoming one of the few stable options for foreign nationals who want to start a business in Canada. The draw also came days after the province launched its first Temporary Rural / Remote Health Support Initiative round on July 23, illustrating how BC is rationing a limited allocation across competing priority groups.

On July 28, 2026, the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador issued a combined 445 invitations to prospective immigrants through the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP) and the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP), of which 400 came through the NLPNP and 45 through the AIP. Candidates who wish to be considered must first enter the pool through the provincial Expression of Interest (EOI) system, after which the province selects and invites candidates according to priority criteria such as healthcare, sales and service, local education, and French-language ability.

In a span of less than two weeks, from July 3 to July 15, 2026, the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) ran six draws in quick succession, issuing invitations to apply for a provincial nomination to at least 1,167 candidates, with the focus falling squarely on health-care, law-enforcement and technology occupations along with applicants who plan to settle in the province's rural communities. A single Alberta Opportunity Stream round on July 15 accounted for 833 of those invitations, roughly 70% of the six draws combined, reinforcing the stream's grip on provincial selection this year, while the July 3 Express Entry draw for health-care workers delivered 92 invitations, the largest round of its kind in 2026. As of July 15, the AAIP had held 62 draws and issued more than 10,700 invitations so far in 2026, and had made 3,520 nominations against its annual allocation of 6,403 (a further 50 physicians and 12 francophone candidates were nominated under separate federal spaces that do not count toward that allocation). While the allocation has recovered from the low it hit after Ottawa's early-2025 cuts, it still sits about 30% below the 9,750 ceiling Alberta held in both 2023 and 2024.

British Columbia returned to its Entrepreneur Immigration (EI) category on June 30, inviting candidates who plan to launch a new business or acquire and grow an existing one in the province, in what was the province's seventh entrepreneur selection of 2026 and its second EI round of the month—a break from the earlier once-a-month cadence; the round issued invitations across both permanent residence (PR) pathways while clearly favouring the Base Stream, which handed out 14 invitations to apply (ITAs) at a minimum score of 118, versus fewer than five for the Regional Stream at 113, and—apart from the February 10 round—it simultaneously set both the highest Base cut-off and the lowest Regional cut-off seen so far this year; across 2026 the province has now held 12 EI draws (seven Base, five Regional) for at least 78 provincial-nomination ITAs, an intensifying pace that comes as Ottawa sharply raises provincial nomination allocations and British Columbia's own share expands in step.
