Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) held its latest Express Entry draw on May 28, 2026, targeting immigration candidates with French-language proficiency and issuing 4,500 invitations to apply (ITAs).
To be considered, candidates had to meet two requirements: a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 409, and an Express Entry candidate profile created before 10:20 p.m. Universal Coordinated Time (UTC) on April 29, 2026.
The draw was the 30th Express Entry selection of 2026 overall and the fourth held in May. It was also the sixth French-language draw of the year, underscoring the department's continued push to grow Francophone immigration outside Quebec.
Selections tilt heavily toward in-Canada candidates
The shape of the 2026 draws shows IRCC focusing its selections on applicants already in Canada, especially those holding provincial nominations or with Canadian work experience.
Broken down by category, the 30 draws held this year are distributed as follows:
| Draw type | Number of draws |
|---|---|
| Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) | 11 |
| Canadian Experience Class (CEC) | 9 |
| French-language proficiency | 6 |
| Physicians with Canadian work experience | 1 |
| Healthcare and social services | 1 |
| Senior managers with Canadian work experience | 1 |
| Trades | 1 |
Together, the PNP and CEC account for 20 draws — roughly two-thirds of all selections this year — forming the backbone of Canada's Express Entry strategy in 2026.
French-language draws are the second-largest source of invitations
Although French-language draws are not the most frequent, the volume of invitations they have generated is substantial. Of the 79,841 ITAs IRCC has issued so far in 2026, the breakdown by category is as follows:
| Draw type | ITAs issued |
|---|---|
| Canadian Experience Class (CEC) | 37,250 |
| French-language proficiency | 30,500 |
| Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) | 4,450 |
| Healthcare and social services | 4,000 |
| Trades | 3,000 |
| Physicians with Canadian work experience | 391 |
| Senior managers with Canadian work experience | 250 |
| Total | 79,841 |
The 30,500 ITAs issued through French-language draws represent close to 40 percent of all invitations this year — second only to the CEC and well ahead of every other category — making Francophone applicants the second-largest group invited in 2026. The figure extends the federal government's broader goal of expanding French-speaking immigration and raising the share of Francophone communities outside Quebec.
The latest cut-off of 409 is slightly higher than the 400 CRS recorded in the April 29 French-language draw, while the number of invitations rose from 4,000 to 4,500 — suggesting the pool of eligible Francophone candidates remains ample. For those planning to immigrate through Express Entry, French-language ability is increasingly one of the most effective ways to improve the odds of receiving an invitation.
